POSITION GROUP RANKINGS: LINE BACKERS

Jordan Guyton, Robinson

ROBINSON
Veteran playmakers are fixtures in the middle of the Knight defense. 3 of 4 return in the defensive secondary and 2 of 3 return at line backers for Robinson. As a unit in 2013, the defense only allowed 12 points per game.   The speed, tenacity and top notch play of the line backers created points or put the offense in a favorable position to score.

Javaughn Johnson is the turnover machine. He returns from a 2012 season where opponents had nightmares of him creating turnovers. 3 interceptions and six, yes 6…defensive TDs as a junior. 71 total tackles, 12 of which were counted as TFLs (tackle for lose). Add 4 sacks, 2 cause fumbles and his stat line earned him ALL BCP honors at the conclusion of last season and All State honors in January.

Jordan Guyton lead the team in tackles a year ago. 99 total tackles to his name, 78 solos. He is strong, fast and doesn’t shy away from anybody. A defensive leader who can play at anyone of the line backing positions. He is expected to increase his 2.5 sacks and 7 TFLs this season as the Knights will be on attack once again.

Damon Willis (3 year varsity player) and Mike Cholas (3 year basketball player) are expected to complete the line backer line up. Willis played plenty in 2012 and rumor has it that 6-2 Cholas bench presses over 300 lbs. Guyton, Johnson and Willis provide experience while Cholas will be an above average player for the Knights.

2 TAMPA BAY TECH
Any line backing crew with Fred Russ, has to be ranked. No way around it. Russ is arguably the best solo line backer in the area. Pound for pound, take the “recruiting/prospect” out of it, Russ is baller. Place Jalen Woodall, Ricky Pyron and Bruno Jean around him and it looks like The Great Wall of TBT. The Walls at Orient Road Jail may not be stronger than this group.

3 PINELLAS PARK
You may not hear much of this group on a daily basis. They are not the sexiest bunch, grab headlines or get a lot of media attention. What they do, is play! Antonio Harris, Kal-El Williams and Jeremiah Mitchell anchor the Patriot defense. Ball sniffing group with a lot of experience is the best group in Pinellas County.

4 ARMWOOD
New faces for Armwood, but expect the same results. Jordan Griffin is the man in the middle who returns from an 2012 campaign with 10.9 tackles per game. The rest will be a vicious group by committee: Eric Frazier, Brian Thomas, Justin Manning, Quinton Singletary and Curtis Woodard.

5 HAINES CITY
The lone Polk County team on the list, comes from a town and school that has generated a lot of hype since the spring. Transfer Sharrod Mosby is the man in the middle. To his left and right is promising rising junior Tavon Cox and Kevin Sapp. Cox is extremely long and rangy. While Sapp is a football coach’s dream. Plays the game how it should be played.
