Tampa Bay Tech 2014 RB, Deon Thompson is preparing himself for a break out season. Hampered slightly by injury last season, Thompson has dedicated himself to mature as a football player, student and leader.
Deon started his off season with a bang, earning Central Florida 7v7 All Tournament honors this past weekend in Apopka, FL. Could have made a case for team MVP. Not all his plays were flashy. Not all his plays were big. But he made plays over and over again and led by example because he was so consistent. Instead of the check down player, he became the first and second option for the QB.
No offers yet, but they are sure to come. Currently, he is attracting recruiting interest from Alabama, Rutgers, Kansas, Indiana, USF, UCF, Cincinnati and Missouri. Deon is our #76 ranked prospect headed into spring football. He is shifty, has great speed and catches the ball extremely well.
“As a prospect I am a good running back because I can catch from out the back field, make people miss, even run through them. Most important, I’m not afraid to come up and block and I have great technique for it,” says Thompson. “I can also line up as a slot receiver.”
Thompson admits that he is talented, but wants to continue to get better. “The one thing I can improve on is my speed. I want to be a back with speed that can pull away from defenders after a long run.”
The 2014 prospects has plans on taking unofficial visits to Georgia, South Florida, Clemson, Tennessee, Miami and Auburn during the summer.
The Influence…
“My biggest influence would be my mom because she’s in a place no one would ever plan on going and does what she does just to feed her family and make sure me and my little sister are good. All she ask me to ever do is make her proud, so the days I don’t feel like working out or don’t feel like going to school, I think well she’s in overseas for her family. This is the least I can do!” – Deon Thompson
