Pugh’s View: The season didn’t end exactly as planned for the Hawks, but that’s in the past and nothing short of Orlando in December (again) would be a major disappointment for AHS. They’ve got a couple of questions at QB, but with the defensive starters returning on this squad you could get Ray Charles to take snaps until they hit their stride. In all seriousness, even with this schedule Armwood is capable of pitching 4-5 shutouts along the way. They start the season in Las Vegas on ESPN against nationally-ranked Bishop Gorman.

Must Have: An emotional leader to step up and be the next Josh Grady on the field. Leon McQuay III is this year’s Kyle Wilcox in terms of classroom leadership, work ethic on/off the field and demeanor, but the charismatic Grady is who picked them up when the going got tough last season. Not a must have, but it would be nice to see Ronnie Thomas make it back after that devastating injury against Lincoln in the 4A Finals.

Uh-Oh: Hard to find an uh-oh, but IF the Hawks were to go out to Vegas and not play their best game and somehow get beat, it would certainly get the detractors squawking pretty loud here in the Bay Area. Biggest uh-oh on the roster would be an injury to Gators Commit Matt Jones. That would put even more pressure on whoever inherits the QB job in my opinion.
