Cody  – Where can players send their hilite films to BCP?

BCP – When we start excepting hilites again, we will post a link. Not right now though.

Antonio – Does the school you play a sport at have any impact on recruitment or your chances of being exceptionally good at the sport? If your a good football player and you excel in sports is their a good chance you have an opportunity to get a scholarship?

BCP – The school you play at does not have as much influence on your recruitment as it once did.  Your promotion plays a bigger role.  College coaches will go out of their way to evaluate a potential prospect if he is not a “popular football” school, if that prospect is a baller.  Such as Nelson Agholor, Berkeley Prep and Jeremy Deering, Leto to name a few.  The more media and coach promotion, the more attractive a prospect becomes.  Now college coaches feel as if they must go “Check this kid out that everyone is talking about”. If you are a good football player there is a chance you can be offered a scholarship. However, a good high school football player does not always = a good college football prospect.

BJ –  What if you play football in a conference (Ex.7A,3A,4A) & you are a dominant player but the teams your playing are not very good. Does that affect your recruit level meaning does that make recruiters think your only doing good because the teams your playing aren’t very good.

BCP – Not so much.  Recruiters look more at individual players and their skill set for the position. For example:  Offensive lineman is punishing his opponents on film. The opponents are clearly not very talented.  However, the offensive lineman is 6-5/270, runs his feet, aggressive at the point of attack, plays with a low pad level, drives the Dlineman through the dirt, runs well and is aggressive.  The recruiters are not going to totally discount the lack of competition but do understand that it is not the kid’s fault.  He displays what they want and it usually works out in his favor.

Kagan – When is it too late to start getting recruited.. I’m a junior right now with no interest from anyone

BCP – That’s normal.  Only 2014 kids that will start getting early interest are the few studs.  Not many of those.  The rest will get interest in May and throughout the 2013 season.

Ray – What source do most coaches/colleges use to recruit athletes? Is it scouts, media hs coaches, emails with highlight film or other? My 2014 son is on the radar but no offers or many “real” letters yet. Also, how do u get film and photos on the Scout aNd Rivals sites?

BCP – Sources are a preference to coaching staffs. The majority of the Division 1 programs use scouting services that are not fan based. Sunshine Preps for example. In the end, they make their own evaluations on prospects. I know nothing about how Scout and Rival sites operate.

Paul What is the best way to make sure every school possible gets a good look at your highlight tape?

BCP – Every school will not do that.  However, be proactive and email film to recruiting coordinators at the schools you feel you can play.  No guarantee it will get watched, but if it does and they like you, then it was worth it. High school coaches relationships with college coaches mean a lot.  When certain HS coaches send film, a college coach will watch because that HS coach has a good reputation of producing athletes that can play at a certain level.  Our reputation is just the same.  When we push film, the college coaches will watch because they know we are not just promoting certain kids at a certain school and we are pretty good with our evaluations.

Jason – I am a junior at a local school that has had a different coach every year. Going into my senior year other then gathering film, attending combines and bettering my times, what can I do at this point to maximize my exposure?

BCP – Keep playing and produce. If you are a baller, it will come. If not, hopefully it will come later.
