MacCollom Shootout: Last second shot, PHU win

Brandon vs Palm Harbor

Very clean first half by both teams. Not many turnovers and limited fouls. Brandon’s athleticism and hustle defense allowed them to jump out to an early lead. Slowly but surly Palm Harbor made shots and controlled the boards to chop at the Eagle lead. PHU Taylor Sparling was the scoring catalyst for the Hurricanes. Very aggressive shooting the basketball and putting the pressure on the Eagle defense. #Dante Mitchell for Brandon is a streaky, smooth scorer. Not a volume shooter. More like a Kevin Durant, efficient shot taker and led the Eagles in first half scoring. Brandon’s Romillo Fields hit a three to end the half, score Brandon 24 Palm Harbor 18.

Second Half – The second half belonged to Palm Harbor who pulled with in 2 points with 1:08 seconds left in the game. Brandon attempted to kill some clock when a PHU defender got his hands on the ball creating a turnover. After a timeout, PHU’s Jake Danikowski got the shot he wanted right under the basket and missed the tying bucket with 18.9 seconds remaining. PHU quick foul put Brandon’s Armonii Green at the line for an one and one opportunity. He missed the first, Brandon offensive board and Abdiel Padua to the line for one and one. He missed and PHU Sparling grabbed the board and intentional foul by Brandon sent Sparling to the line. He missed the first and made the second free throw. PHU in bounded from 3/4 court down 46-45 with 10.7 seconds left to play. Then the below happened…
