Teams:
Land O’Lakes
Mitchell
Springstead
Sunlake
Pasco
Well, that escalated quickly…
The Sunlake Seahawks can state their case for being part of the “elite” status in Pasco County. The school has only been in existence since 2007, that year Sunlake went 0-10. The first three seasons in fact the Seahawks compiled a 5-25 record from 2007 thru 2009. Then something happened. In 2010 a 9-1 record was posted and following last season’s 9-3 record that gives the ‘Hawks a 45-10 record since their first three seasons. The past two seasons, Sunlake has defeated the long-standing “Kings” of the county from Dade City and this season they’ll host the Pirates on October 9th instead of the usual week one meeting from the past two years which could play a factor. Buckle your seat belts.
We told you to buckle your seat belts; this is your warning…
We mentioned the wins for Sunlake over Pasco the past two years and that’s pretty big news in and of itself. Out of the five teams in the district however, only Land O’Lakes at 4-6 finished the season under .500 mark. Springstead actually defeated Sunlake last season in a quirky 6-0 game that ended up causing chaos on the back end when Mitchell joined them in a tiebreaker. Speaking of the Mustangs, they’ve finished the regular season with a 6-4 record five consecutive seasons and are probably sick-and-tired of it. They’ve been .500 or better for eight seasons in a row and should finish their ninth consecutive season over the even mark. The last time they played Pasco was all the way back in 2010, but with a loaded roster this season they are probably expecting much bigger things regardless of who’s on the schedule.
Talk about a road trip…
Land O’Lakes is setting the standard when it comes to taking their talents on the road. Once the Gators play River Ridge on September 4th, they won’t return to the friendly confines until October 23rd when they host Pasco. In that span, Land O’Lakes will travel to Anclote, Sunlake (albeit the next-door neighbors), Lakeland Christian, Tampa Catholic and Springstead. If you guys need some light reading suggestions, you should ask Fort Meade and Frostproof.
