“He is a great student of the game who has made a personal commitment to be the best football player he can be. He has obvious skills but has made a conscious and concerted effort to develop them.” – John Few, Plant defensive coordinator on LB Andrew Beck.

Plant High has made a habit of big time prospects, committing early. With the pressure of recruiting and media attention on the process, sometimes unloading some of the pressure is not a bad idea. Last year, it was Richy Klepal and Mitchell Wright. This year, Andrew Beck.

Andrew Beck, LB/TE (6’3” 235 pounds) is described by head coach, Robert Weiner as a “Physical, aggressive downhill LB. Great tackler with power and instincts. Outstanding ball skills for a big skill player.” Tonight, Beck made a verbal commitment to Texas.

Andrew is our #16 overall top prospect and #2 ILB. He posted big numbers at the BCP/BHSN Ignite Elite Showcase:
– 11 reps of 185 lbs on the bench press
– 4.56 40 yard dash
– 8’2 broad jump
– 4.56 short shuttle

After being named co-LB MVP at the annual Ignite Elite Showcase, Beck grabbed offers from Boston College, SMU, Miami, Kentucky and UCF. Weiner also says, ” Beck is physical enough to play inside linebacker; athletic enough to run with the third vertical.”

This off season, Andrew visited Florida, Florida State, South Florida, Central Florida, Texas, Baylor, SMU and Stanford. Beck chose Texas because, “Everybody always told me that when you go to THE school, you just feel it. That’s just what happened. You just get that feeling”

In a February interview, we asked Beck “If you get an offer from Texas, would they become #1 on your list?” SEE HIS RESPONSE HERE.

The Longhorn verbal commit was also really impressed with the people, “My one big concern was the guys I’ll be spending my next four years with and I was really impressed me with their guys.”

He led team with 126 tackles (50 solos), 6 sacks, 32 tackles for loss, 8 passes defended in 2012 and also rushed 5 times for 17 yards. Had 2 catches for 22 yards with one being a 20 yard TD catch vs Robinson.

OUR VERY FIRST BECK EVALUATION
Andrew Beck, 2014, LB – Standing nearly 6-feet 2-inches tall Beck is a legitimate linebacker prospect. He has a high motor, good vision and has great in-game intelligence. He’ll be a great under-the-radar college prospect.
