Willie Barrett is a 2012 ATH ALL BCP TEAM selection. He ended this past season with 1405 rushing yards, 14 TDs, 56 tackles for Anclote. Hard to deny the production. What we learned, Barrett’s production is the result of his character. He is a humble, hardworking, team player and the results are evident on Friday night.

Even though we have seen Barrett run past tacklers and more often, run over them, he would say his lower body and power are not his biggest strength. “Ill say my biggest strength is leadership and being able to take on an important role for my team. He goes on to say, “Our senior captain from the first year of this school is graduating and going off to college and now it’s my time to step up and try to duplicate such a leader.”

Leadership is an intangible that is not hard to point out. Every team has that guy who the team follows. And there is only one alpha dog in each locker room. Even the top dog knows he can get better and develop his weaknesses into a strength. “I need to improve on pass blocking in my game. Also need to be more vocal with the team so that everyone is on the same page and we can work better.”

Barrett does not have a verbal offer from any schools at this time, but they will come. He is receiving recruiting attention from Mississippi St., Michigan St., Georgia Tech, and Miami. Right now, he is not certain if he is taking any unofficial visits during the spring. “But over the summer, I’m hoping to go to some out of state camps and take some unofficial visits. No guaranteed schools yet though.”

THE INFLUENCE
“In anything I do or need help deciding, my mom has always been there to help. But my parents in general have been working real hard to help me get through this recruiting process.”
