2012 ALL BCP

Player of the Year: WILL WORTH, NEWSOME 2013 QB/LB

At some point along the way, the love for the pure football player has been lost. College coaches and fans constantly are infatuated over the pretty college prospect. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the potential stud prospect, but the diligent no-nonsense football player is what the game is built on. Will Worth has been refreshing to the Tampa Bay football culture. The player who does whatever the team needs and never begs for attention. So how did Worth win Player of the Year?

Try this on for size: Will Worth passed for 1051 yards and 11 TDs this past season while also rushing for 1537 yards and 19 TDs. He had 7 games over 100 yards passing and 8 games over 100 yards rushing. Worth commanded his team to 7 straight wins before being eliminated in the 3rd round of the 7A state playoffs. He also made the most impact in Newsome’s biggest games (RD1 playoffs vs. Gaither -15 carries for 181 yards, RD 2 vs. Durant – 19 carries for 101 yards and RD 3 vs. Osceola -20 carries for 116 yards)

Hold on, he’s not done yet. When is the last time you saw the starting QB double as the starting middle linebacker? Will Worth did. He not only started, but was the heart of the Wolf pack defense. 64 solo tackles, 104 total and four forced fumbles. Against Jefferson he had 11 tackles, 10 tackles against Chamberlain and 8 tackles in the playoff game vs. Durant.

Last post season, Worth was a 1st team ALL BCP Utility player. This year he is unquestionably the Player of the Year.

Offensive Player of the Year: PETE DINOVO, EAST LAKE 2013 QB

Last season, Pete Dinovo was selected as a 2nd Team All BCP QB selection. This year, his play, production and leadership have made him the Offensive Player of the year.

The 11-2 Eagles rallied around their leader, Pete Dinovo. He not only delivered, but in a big way. Pete passed for 2980 yards and 25 TDs. He completed a staggering 62 percent of his passes and threw just 8interceptions. Dinovo threw for over 200 yards in 7 different games and threw for over 300 yards in 4 different games. In 7 different games, he threw for multiple TDs. Pete is a born leader and great player who’s committed to Central Florida.

Defensive Player of the Year: VERNON HARGREAVES, WHARTON 2013 ATH

Hargreaves entered Hillsborough County a few years ago, with little to no recognition. No one knew if he could play. What a difference a few years can make. Vernon Hargreaves III went from a no name prospect to a national recruit who is the crown-jewel of an excellent University of Florida recruiting class. Not only did he “Wow” college coaches, but he made high school football fans take notice. Last season, Hargreaves was a second team defensive ATH ALL BCP selection. This year, he dominated his competition and did so much on the field that there was no way to deny him Defensive Player of the Year honors.

To start, he played multiple positions: CB, safety, LB, RB, QB and WR. Against Chamberlain he had 12 solo tackles and 21 total; against Plant 12 tackles. On the season Vernon produced 73 solo tackles, 5 INTs, 5 caused fumbles, and five 2pt conversions. It is not so much the numbers he produced, but how he produced them. A blind man could tell he was the glue for the Wildcat defense. That is why, University of Florida verbal commit, Vernon Hargreaves is the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year.

Specialist Player of the Year: WILLIAM FEW, PLANT 2013 K

FG’s 13 of 15, 48 yard long; PATs 33 of 37. He also had 6 tackles. Few is ranked #1 kicker in 8A in Florida statistically by Maxpreps and the 13th best kicker nationally. He broke a Plant record for field goals in a season. He was money for Plant all year in clutch situations. Few’s longest field goal on the year was 48 yards.

Few has a big leg and some serious range. He made 2 or more field goals in at least 5 games– against great teams like Robinson, Armwood, Wharton, Freedom (Orlando), and Jesuit. Will was clutch and consistent with touchbacks as well all season. He’s that guy that can make all those kicks—the pooch, the onside, the squib…you name it. It’s also impressive that he won’t hesitate to put a lick on a guy. William Few was a huge part of Plant’s success and broken records in the process; therefore he is BCP’s Specialist of the Year.

Coach of the Year: MIKE DEPUE, ROBINSON

Mike Depue ended his career as a winner. He advanced a young team to the state 5A semi-finals.  He also effectively managed a talented coaching staff in order to produce the best team in Tampa Bay.  Depue’s team lost only two games this year to Plant and Godby.  The 12-2 Knights under his direction were fearless, opportunistic and athletic.  Depue was the face of a team that scored 535 points, allowed only 164 point and did it with consistency.
