As earlier reported, Atif Austin has been removed as the head football coach at Tarpon Springs. This comes to BCP as a complete shock as Austin was 3-1 this year with a high scoring offense and solid defense. From what we have gathered,reports and complaints were made to the Tarpon Springs Administration and Pinellas County Athletic department with allegations that Coach Austin was knowingly permitting athletes to participate in practices without the state requirements to be medically cleared. We have not been able to reach Coach Austin yet. Defensive Coordinator Ron Hawn will step in as interim Head Coach. Right now, the Spongers are without an offensive coordinator as Austin filled that role. The rest of the Tarpon offensive coaches are first year assistants and QB Louie Pappas may be the next knowledgeable in regards to the Tarpon offense. More details to come as we receive them.
