Tampa, FL – The first of the Big County Preps off-season camps took place this past Sunday at Larry Sanders Sports Complex. 190 athletes took the field to showcase their talent in front or numerous fans and a handful of talent evaluators. Big County Preps filmed every competitive drill which will be shown at a latter date.
IGNITE is the first of the 3 BCP Exposure Series Events (Ignite, E7-Spring and E7-Summer) which will conclude with THE XECUTIVES! Xecutives IS AN INVITATION ONLY Showcase where the top performers from Ignite, E7 Spring and E7 Summer will be invited (Free of Charge) to compete at the Mid Summer bash…The Xecutives, which will be the Elite of the 3 Exposure events. Ignite is the start and the event Area Athletes look forward to.
The pair from Pinellas made their way to Progress Village: Derek Bryant, Pinellas Park, 2020, RB (5-5/142) and Lawrance Toafili, Pinellas Park, 2020, RB (6-1/182)…just to show off some…AND that they did. Toafili was pretty darn good in pass pro and open field tackling while Bryant was just too much when the backers tried to cover him. Up from Manatee County was Johnny Jones, Palmetto, 2019, RB (5-9/162). Kid looks like he loves the weight room. Performed really well in every drill as did Kevontae Crews, Durant, 2019, RB (5-10/156). Is he next in line to pick up where Cameron Myers left off for the Cougars?
The duo from Hernando County Shemar Lawson, Hernando , 2019, RB (5-10/170) and David Bronson, Hernando , 2019, RB (5-8/162) were fun to watch. Defined by quickness and suddenness…Sheesh, these two cut up in 1 on 1 pass routes. RB MVP was Jalen Carr, Orlando Christian Prep, 2019, RB (5-9/150). Super consistent, tough, smooth and put all eyes on notice. Almost unstoppable throughout the day.
Charged with the assignment to slow down the RBs were the LBs. Brysen Roth, Gaither, 2019, LB (5-10/211) and Dylan Ridolph, Wiregrass Ranch, 2020, LB (6-0/200) had similar performances. High energy players who performed extremely well in pads this past season. Used Ignite as a platform to get our eyes on them. Mission accomplished.
Alvin Mathis Jr, Pinellas Park, 2020, LB (6-1/195) is a handful. Good balance, length and lateral speed. We joked with Levi Marshall, East Bay, 2019, LB (6-1/210) that he finally left the RB stuff alone. Now, pounds heavier and feet quicker, it’s showing that LB will be his calling. MVP Gabriel Jones, Bloomingdale, 2020, LB (6-1/185) jumped off the charts to LB coaches. Every drill was crisp. Every correction was made. Never made the same mistake twice.
Also need to point out that Earnest Herron, Kingdom Preparatory , 2019, LB (6-1/196), Lamont Perry, Braden River, 2020, LB (6-0/176), Luke Gage, Sickles, 2020, LB (5-10/185) and Shawn Hardy, Hillsborough, 2019, LB (/190) did some good things.
