With film: Russ and Porter verbally commit to in-state schools

Fred Russ celebrates after a big hit during spring practice

FIU and USF picked up big area commitments today. After Alex McGough (Gaither) committed to FIU this past weekend and Chase Litton (Wharton) committed to USF earlier this week, the two in-state schools received another gift in form of our #2 ranked Dual Threat QB, Deiondre Porter (Jefferson) and top returner ILBs, Fred Russ (Tampa Bay Tech).

Fred Russ is a big hitting, flow finding, impact player for the Titans. He brings attitude and energy to not only the defense, but the team. FIU was his only offer which he received earlier this offseason. Russ lead the team in solo (38) and total tackles (86) in 2012 and chipped in 2 caused fumbles according to Maxpreps.

Russ is like the color green. He is all over the field. Wherever the ball is, Russ was.

Deiondre Porter was a 3rd team ALL BCP selection last season: 157/256 .61 completion %, 2276 yards, 227. Y/G, 27 TDs, 13 INTs. Many teams were recruiting Porter as an athlete (He ran a 10.9 100m). Head Coach Jeremy Earle said Porter held a 3.7 overall GPA during the spring semester.

Porter received a verbal offer from USF and reports say he committed on the spot. Also holds offers from Iowa State, Buffalo, Samford, Coastal Carolina. Below is some video of Porter performing at IMG 7V7. The best part of Porter’s performance, he gave his receivers the opportunity to make plays on the ball. Was not afraid to take shots down field. Several times, spectators would say, “He can throw it!” Which is a true statement.
