Kaminski stays grounded at Palm Harbor, positive with recruiting and focused on team

This time of the year student athletes ask a lot of questions. Questions regarding their talent and “Why are college football programs not contacting me, why is SO AND SO getting offers and I’m not?”  Valid questions for players who feel like they performed well enough on the field, have been successful at camps and showcases and just want to know if college football programs are taking notice.

Tyler Kaminski, Palm Harbor 2014 QB (6-0/207 lbs) is one of those prospects who just wants to find a football home post graduation. The leader of an 8-3 playoff team last year, Tyler doesn’t know what his college football future will hold. However he is staying positive that the future will be bright, ” I’m just trying to find a home. I’m happy for guys who have received offers and guys who have committed. All I can do is just keep working.”  At this point Kaminiski has not received a lot of recruiting attention and as time diminishes on his high school career, he wants to solidify a college plan.

According to Maxpreps, after 8 games last season, Tyler completed 67 of 117 passes for 1027 yards, completing .573 percent of his throws for 128.4 yards, 10 TDs and just 2 interceptions. His numbers are solid. His showcase performances have been ever better. Since last summer, Tyler has attended every BCP showcase. And at each one, he has showed that he can perform with the best of them; strong arm, great touch, good accuracy and excellent footwork. But just like many other QBs that are not getting a lot of love for college football programs, his weakness is his height.

The magic number for QBs is 6-2. That height is the traditional minimum prospects need to be heavily sought after. All is not done because he is not 6-2, there are plenty of college football program who will take a 6-0 QB any day of the week. It’s just going to take one of those schools to fall in love with Tyler. The rising senior QB can not do anything about his height, but he can improve as a player. Tyler says he understands defenses a lot better, allows the game to come to him and has just matured as a quarterback.

The recruiting may not have popped yet. Florida and Florida State may never come calling. But for this prospect, there is a football future and time will tell where. Right now he is focused at the task at hand. That’s winning football games in 2013.  Each year, the team goal is to advance one round further in the playoffs than the previous year.  So a Round 2 FHSAA playoff birth is the light at the end of the tunnel.  Even though, Palm Harbor has lost a few teammates to transfer, the guys who remain are the guys who Kaminski will depend on to help  the team reach their goal.
