Transfers Impact Their New Teams

“Transfers” is such a touchy subject when it comes to high school football in Florida. Many would rather pretend as it doesn’t exist. Usually when talking to high school football fans, opinions are split down the middle. Many people could care less about transfers; The other half, stand firm in their belief that football players should not be able to transfer without penalty. The biggest issue is not transferring, but recruiting. Recruiting a player from one high school to attend another. That is a different topic, for a different website at a different time.

Transfers happen and for different reasons. Many of the reasons are understandable and to the athlete transferring, to he and his family, their reason is understandable. Sports are a big part of high school life and the best players provide their team the best chance of winning.

Regardless, many more students have moved from school to school at the start of the second semester, but below are just a few. These guys should have a big impact with their new team.

D’Angelo Gaines, Frostproof

We start in Polk County where D’Angelo Gaines departed Winter Haven and is now at Frostproof. Injured half of the 2013 season, this RB (2015, 5-9/170) is one if the best in Polk County. Super slippery, fast and elusive. Along with Jaylyn McKinney, Gaines will provide the Bulldogs a deadly 1-2 combination in the offensive backfield.

Tyler Armstrong is now at Bartow (DQB/ATH, 2016 6-2/170) via Mulberry. With a void at the QB position at Bartow, if Tyler earns the job he will provide the Yellow Jackets with an experienced athletic QB behind center. Even better for Bartow, he is young and could potentially be a 2-year starter for Bartow.

Bouncing over to Hillsborough County, unless you were living under a rock in Bikini Bottom (That’s where Sponge Bob calls home) you heard about Nate Craig transferring from Pasco to Tampa Catholic. “So what’s the big deal?” Well the 2016 WR (6-2/200) has the body type of a college sophomore, the speed of the top high school track sprinters and the athletic ability of some of the best rising seniors in the Nation. Tampa Catholic has had some great athletes in recent years, but none like this since Christian Green. Craig will provide TC with a playmaker on any snap from any offensive position.

Mulberry also lost Kensey Davis to Durant. The athletic offensive lineman moves extremely well and can play several different positions on the offensive line. At 6-4/325 pounds, Davis will be “That Guy” the Cougar ball carriers will want to run behind.

Marchelo Judge, Tampa Bay Tech CB 2016 5-7/166 came from Middleton. The Titans graduate a few in the secondary and “Chelo” is the type of player who could play either position in the secondary and also be a great offensive option. Gritty player, great academics and team player.

Both Sekendric Biddines and Savion Smith are now at Lakewood. Both attended Boca Ciega last season. Biddines is a WR (2015 6-2/175) that is starting to be recruited as a defensive back. Long arms, great hips and ball skills. Smith Provides the Spartan with playmaking ability on both sides of the ball. Similar player to Biddins.
