1. Lakewood (St. Petersburg) vs Gibbs (St. Petersburg) 02/18/14 8:00 PM EST at Eckerd College
According to Maxpreps, this will be the fourth meeting between the two area rivals. Gibbs (18-8) has a 2-1 lead over the Spartans (11-12). But the only game that matters is the one tonight. Gibbs defeated Lakewood 55-52 and 61-51 (OT) back in December and January. But, Lakewood punched back with a 66-62 OT win at the beginning of February. Two overtime games, two games determined by 4 or less points, county rivals and outstanding athletes make this the top game in the area tonight.
2. Bartow vs Haines City 02/18/14 7:00 PM EST at Bartow
Two teams with really good guard play. Bartow (18-10) may be the fastest team in Polk County and Haines City (20-9) is super athletic. This game will likely come down to which team can control the boards and perimeter shooting. Tony Bradley, Bartow C will need to come up huge on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.
3. Tampa Prep vs Brooks-DeBartolo (Tampa) 02/18/14 7:00 PM EST at Tampa Preparatory
Sneaky good game. 57-49, 59-34, 73-59 all Tampa Prep (24-3) wins this year vs Brooks Debartolo (20-8). The scores don’t indicate how well Brooks stacks up against Tampa Prep. Michael Obi, Brooks Debartolo F will have to come up big in this game. The inside presence of Brooks will need to stop Juwan Durhan on the inside for Tampa Prep who is averaging more than 20 points per game.
4. Lennard (Ruskin) vs Largo 02/18/14 7:00 PM EST at Lennard
Athletes all over the court tonight. Neither team with much size outside of Largo’s Brandon Jones. Donavan Hale and Jonathan Crawford both stand 6-2 or taller and will need to crash the boards. Lennard and Largo are fast paced teams who play with a lot of energy. Lennard enters with an impressive 23-4 record and Largo 25-2. Calean Watts is the guy the Packers will have to limit. Streaky scorer and good ball handler.
