Wekiva at Dr. Phillips
The 1-1 Mustangs roll into Dr. Phillips tonight averaging 33 points per game. 46 points in a win versus East River and 20 points losing by 4 to Ocoee. Only one game worth of stats has been input to Maxpreps but it seems like seniors Chad Davis and Amari Thomas are the oil that makes the offensive engine run. They combined for nearly 200 yards and 3 TDs in game 1.

Dr. Phillips has improved weekly on defense. In week one the Panthers allowed 41 points to Boone, 14 points to Apopka the following week, and shutout Windermere last week. The Panthers have scored 105 points in 3 games. This will be a dangerous team later in the season.

The Vikings have been outstanding defensively. Two shutouts and have kept their last two opponents under 25 points each. While the defense has been stout, the offense has been rolling. The offense has scored 135 total points in 4 games. Senior RB Cori Davis is averaging 89 rushing yards per game with a total of 434 all-purpose yards this season.

Carrollwood Day won the offseason accumulating several new faces, players, and coaches. From an 0-9 season in 2019 to a 3-1 start in 2020, the Patriot offense is solid behind senior QB Brendan Palmar who has a 128 QBR while the defense has been stingy. In four games, CDS has allowed 35 total points, recorded 24 TFLs, and averaging 2.5 sacks per game.

Venice at Lakeland
Lakeland’s late start to the season didn’t slow them down. A one-point win over city rival Lake Gibson and a 44-0 thrashing of Strawberry Crest the following week. One game of stats in Maxpreps and three players have rushed 118 yards or better. All in the same game. Lakeland has been and will be a run-first team. However, if they keep this up, having three 800 yard backs at the end of the regular season is a real possibility.

Venice is the top-scoring team in the state. After posting just 13 points in game one versus IMG, the Indians have hunted down the competition. They scored 70+ points in two of the last four games and have allowed 7 or fewer points to opponents in two of the last four games. Senior QB Colin Blazek has thrown 11 TD passes and just 1 INT. Junior LB Martin Ramos has been nothing but spectacular at the midseason point: 42 total tackles and 4 TFLs. Heavyweight fight tonight between championship programs.
