Everyday on the Big County Preps and Sunshine Preps network we come across players like Railond Garrett. Players who are under the radar, not only have potential, but are arguably studs.

Railond is a 2014 6-4/180 QB at Lake Wales High School. He throws a beautiful deep ball and runs like a young Daunte Culpepper. Surprisingly he does not have much attention. Missouri and North Carolina State are showing the most interest and no college offers just yet.

FSU is the dream college, “Because it’s a family thing… My uncle was a linebacker (James Roberson) and I just like the program”, said Garrett. Florida State usually gets their pick of the top QBs in the state and maybe Garrett will get on their short list. He is raw and shows a few technical deficiencies. However, all that is coachable. What you can’t coach is his arm strength, height, athletic ability and touch. He has the talent that can be refined into deadly skills.

“I think I’m not getting much attention because of the area I stay in, small town, small school and I have to work harder than average to be noticed.” Lake Wales was 8-5 this past season and Garrett did not have numbers that lit the world on fire. According to Maxpreps, his best game was against Winter Haven when he was 6 of 19 for 109 yards. “The hardest part about playing QB to me is probably preparing the team for a game. I love the pressure that people put on me because it makes me want to prove what I can do. So I’m kind of abnormal when it comes to the hardest part of playing QB”.

This year will be key for Railond Garrett. He will need to showcase his talents in a couple different arenas to get more exposure. He plans on starting at the Bright House Sports Network/BCP Ignite Elite Showcase on February 2nd at Strawberry Crest High School. He admits he needs to improve on making faster reads and better footwork. His dedication in improving both of those aspects of his game will tell what kind of leader and prospect he will become.
