Across the Bay area there were numerous impressive young arms which emerged during this high school football season. One of the most impressive had to belong to Lakeland Christian sophomore Christian Alexander who threw for almost 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns this year. Christian demonstrated great pocket awareness and poise throughout his sophomore campaign; hence, he only threw 8 interceptions and completed 60% of his passes.
Though Christian led the Vikings to an impressive 7-3 record he was disappointed that the season ended without a trip to the playoffs. Towards the end of season Christian felt that the Vikings began to wear down because of a lack of depth. Christian says that Head Coach Wayne Peace will make conditioning a focus this offseason. Christian is planning on attending at least three camps and is hoping to improve his foot work and quickness. He would like to become more of a duel threat that can dominate games with both his arm and feet.
Christian is only a sophomore but he has already begun to receive letters from some major universities such as Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Notre Dame. He can’t wait to play on the next level but he currently is just focused on getting Lakeland Christian to their first playoff game. Coach Peace (a former star quarterback at UF) has a tremendous young man leading his team and it looks like Lakeland Christian has a chance to become a power program in Polk County next year.
