Steinbrenner’s Curtis Fitch finds success not many young quarterbacks see

Curtis Fitch, Steinbrenner, 2014 QB

LUTZ – For most second year quarterbacks around Hillsborough County, success is hard to come by. But add in a solid defense, strong offensive line and an impenetrable rushing attack and you may just see the daylight of success.

Meet Curtis Fitch, who may fit the motto of a “young gun” quarterback, but his team covers the bases in all three aforementioned categories. Throw in seven wins and the team coming off of its best record in Steinbrenner program history and you may have cooked up one of the more promising athlete projects in the area.

The Warriors sophomore has not only started both of his seasons for the Warriors, but has seen the squad take off as one of the best in Northwestern Hillsborough (Gaither, Sickles…heck even toss in a Pasco protegy at Land O’ Lakes or Sunlake) and Steinbrenner’s 5-5 record during the 2010 season and 7-3 last season make it one of the best “new” teams in the area.

Fitch says he’s proud to be a part of the success and adds he grew up a lot over the course of this season.

“I’ve matured in my decision making on the field in terms of making reads, and have gotten much better with my scrambling ability,” Fitch, the son of University of South Florida offensive coordinator Todd Fitch, said.

As for the rushing attack of Kendall Pearcey, Shyheem Barthel and Jake Carroll bailing out the sophomore when stressfil situations come into play? He couldn’t be happier for the bailouts.

“It really takes a lot of pressure off me,” Fitch said. He then added, “I know if I’m in any sort of funk the running backs without a doubt will be there to pick up yards.”

Last season, Fitch compiled nine touchdowns, but for a run-heavy offense, that’s nothing to worry about for him. In fact, he predicts a bright future for the Warriors as a whole.

“I think without a doubt we have proven people wrong in the previous seasons and I believe that we will continue doing the same in the future,” Fitch said. “We still have a lot of goals to accomplish in the future such as clinching a playoff birth and a district title.”

He continued, “There is nothing but positive things to come in the future of the program.”

As for himself personally, Fitch thinks his mistakes will shy away with age and his leadership skills may land him a scholarship offer in the next couple of years.

“I see myself cutting down on my interceptions and becoming more of an emotional leader for the team,” said Fitch. “As for college im just going to continue playing my best football and continue working hard on and off the field which will make good things come.”
