The Synopsis:
It might have been only two quarters of football played, but the two teams in this first matchup of the night were acting like there could’ve been a district title at stake. Who knows? It may actually come to that in the fall, but for now it was a hard-hitting affair as Spring Games go between Tech and Freedom. Freedom certainly looked the more aggressive and hungrier team in the 1st Quarter. If not for a few mistakes on big plays (one pass dropped, another play nullified by Holding) this game might not have been decided late in the half. But that’s. Why. They play. The game. Right? I get the feeling this game will come equipped with plenty of emotion this fall. Definitely sensing something more than just another game between these two.
Patriot Games
Quarterback John Economou showed why his services will be a hot commodity at the next level. He’s got a very strong arm and is pretty accurate to boot. He also showed toughness and his ability to run with his 5 yard acrobatic TD run for Freedom’s only score. The Patriots should feel quite encouraged after this. I also liked the play of OL Michael Brittingham. Kid’s got some swag and can bring a little bit of pain with it to boot.
Tech-nically Speaking
The Titans got things going towards the end of the 2nd Quarter when Deon Thompson woke everybody up with a well-timed, hard- nosed 31-yard dash down the Tech sideline. There was something about the energy level that didn’t seem right, BUT they pulled it together and seemed to really hit their stride at the end of the game, which in theory would’ve only been the half. I liked the play of both Thompson’s and LaMarq Caldwell.
Got Direction?
Where do both go from here? What sort of questions are the respective coaching staffs asking themselves in the film rooms tomorrow? I don’t think there’s any new questions for me regarding either team. The score might have only been 7-6, but it’s what I would expect from these two teams.
