Spring Blitz: King vs. Wharton

The Synopsis:
Greg Windham found Chris Murray and Taylor Gonzales early and often, especially Gonzales as King rolled to a 19-8 victory over Wharton. Wharton was the recipient of an unlucky bounce when Greg Windham’s pass went through the hands of stud CB Vernon Hargreaves and into the waiting arms of Chris Murray. The Lions other speedster Taylor Gonzales and Windham teamed up for King’s 2nd TD on the night on a jump ball from the fade route. Not to be denied, Wharton managed to pull back a TD late after giving up a debatable TD on what many on the Wildcat sideline were calling a fumble. Chase Litton hit Darius Page across the middle and Page bolted down the field for an 85-yard TD.

Wildcat Woes
Chase Litton didn’t get much time to throw all night. The King DL was tenacious in finishing their mission of burying the QB, not just hitting him. This might have thrown the timing of the youngster off slightly. His INT killed a productive drive for the Wildcats, but also had a few really nice throws either dropped or the WR didn’t exactly get to the spot. Darius Page is a nice player for Wharton. Hargreaves won’t give up plays like that very often. You can bet on that.

Gonzales (#25), Murray (#8), and Windham (#11) are a triple-threat of the highest degree.

Feed Them to the Lions

Wharton's Darius Page was a beast for the Wildcats on Friday Night.

Although Chris Murray gets a ton of love, his partner-in-yac Mr. Taylor Gonzales is every bit as good. And speed kills. Pair that with a QB that just looks so fluid and much more polished than last year already and there’s a good thing going. Really impressed with the attitude of the defense. That’s going to take them a long way in the district of death.

Just One Question?
Can King match blow-for-blow with the big boys this year? We know they can burn out the lights on the scoreboard, but can the hogs up front bring that noise week-in/week-out? Look, I know that’s two questions but I couldn’t help it. If they do, that district goes a solid 4-deep and becomes tougher than I already thought.
