PASCO COUNTY

Spring 2015 Game Preview: Ridgewood at Crystal River

Ridgewood (2-8)* at Crystal River (2-8)*
* – denotes 2014 records

Both of these teams have very intriguing possibilities regardless of what those records from 2014 both show. Although significant improvements must be made obviously in more than just a “few” phases of the game, both the Rams and the Pirates should be expected to post results that reflect those improvements. Ridgewood returns perhaps one of Pasco County’s most-exciting playmakers in Glass Wilson along with plenty of other key pieces returning at the wide receiver and on the offensive line. The Rams also return many key components on defense as well which should help them improve immensely as stated earlier.

When both teams have the ball on offense it will be about establishing the run first, but Ridgewood isn’t afraid to throw the ball having done so near nearly 170 times in last season. The Pirates are pretty similar although the production from both were in stark contrast to each other. While Ridgewood was a fairly balanced squad with 1,074-yards through the air and 1,359-yards on the ground, Crystal River was approaching a 4-to-1 ratio in terms of yardage with the bulk of their yards (1,885) coming on the ground to just 543 through the air. It should be noted that Crystal River did attempt 60 fewer passes. They return the core of their offensive line and many contributors on defense as well.

Ridgewood is a member of District 5A-8 which includes Gulf, Fivay, Anclote, River Ridge, Zpehyrhills and Hudson. Both of their wins last season were in-district versus Fivay and Anclote.
