Spring 2015 Game Preview: Citrus at Countryside

Citrus (5-5)* at Countryside (7-3)*
* – denotes 2014 records

This game would be a really solid matchup if was played in 2014. It is impossible to turn back the hands of time, so the reality of here-and-now is this is a game featuring one team with unlimited questions in need of replacement for a ton of senior leadership versus a squad that if they were to win seven games this season, that season would be considered a major disappointment. Citrus begins a new season in a new classification and district, while Countryside begins theirs in the same classification, but with a district that will require their roster full of talent to show up in a major way every single week. For now, here is what we expect from both teams tomorrow night.

Citrus looks to run the ball and run often, and with the loss of their top four rushers due to graduation, will look to rising senior QB Ryan Grow to form a bond with rising junior running backs Toriano Mcphee and Christopher Adamson. Countryside will look to counter that scheme with heavy stacks in the box and force the Hurricanes to do other things, which should lead to said other things going exactly the Cougars way on the night.

Countryside’s main objective will be to stay healthy and to make sure that senior-to-be Trent Chmelik can pass the chemistry exam with his teammates Kee Whetzel and Chris Barrett with flying colors. As mentioned, Citrus has dropped from Class 6A into 5A and into a very competitive district with Nature Coast Tech, Lecanto, Brooksvile-Central, Hernando, Crystal River and Weeki Wachee.
