Sickles shuts out rival Alonso 16-0

Tampa, FL – The stage was set for an all out, good old fashion football, slugfest between rivals Alonso and Sickles. All the storylines, the transfers from one school to the other, packed stadium at Sickles High school led to a Sickles 16-0 win at the final horn.

Sickles took an early lead forcing a safety in the first quarter. After receiving the ensuing kickoff, the Gryphons pushed the ball downfield for the second score of the night by Anthony Quintana. Quintana would add to the scoring in the second half extending the lead for Sickles to 16-0 after the extra point.

The Good
Sickles – The defense. Sickles was extremely aggressive on the defensive side of the ball stifling Alonso’s offensive unit. The Ravens struggled to move the ball consistently due to the upfield attack by the Gryphon defense. The secondary defended the pass well and the defensive line controlled the trenches.

Alonso – The defense. The final score was 16-0 in favor of Sickles. 2 points given up by the offense because of a 1st quarter safety and two touchdowns that could have been prevented if not for lazy/missed tackles. The Raven defense played well enough to keep Alonso in the game. Got worn down later in the contest.

The Bad
Sickles – The Gryphons struggles to move the ball through the air. Last night the offense revolved around the stable of running backs who carried the ball. 4 different ball carriers took handoffs last night versus Alonso. The perimeter skill looked to be limited and QB Chris Oladokun had a hard time finding open receivers.

Alonso – Neither team showed much variety on offense. However the Ravens lack of ability to put pressure on the Sickles defense through the air kept the Gryphons anticipating run and committing 8-9 in the box.

Big Game For
Junior RB Anthony Quintana. Before his injury in the final period of the game, Anthony recorded both Sickles touchdowns and moved the ball for the Gryphons on offense. He also had a big INT for the defense along with several tackles. Huge night for Anthony.
