Bulldogs beat the Bulls

Zephyrhills Bulldogs beats the host Wiregrass Ranch Bulls, 26-0.

Zephyrhills junior running back Antwione Sims had a 72-yard touchdown run on a third-and-two play in the last minute of the first quarter to open the scoring and then closed out the scoring with 1:35 left in the game with a 45-yard touchdown run. In between these scoring plays, Sims also had two other runs and a catch for 30 or more yards. Antwione ended the night gaining 245 total yards including 14 carries for 201 rushing yards and one catch for 34 yards.

Bulldogs senior running back Tre’un Everett had 10 rushes for 53 yards including a 16-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes left in the game and freshman quarterback Dylan Wood hit on 3-of-11 passes for 60 yards including a 16-yard touchdown to Jackie Tucker in the last minute of the first half after a Bulls fumble.

Zephyrhills defense shutdown the Bulls offense. Senior linebacker TJ Lee had a sack and multiple tackle-for-losses, senior Tyler Barber had an interception and a pass defense, and sophomore defensive lineman Zander Lemay had a sack and tackle-for-loss.

The Wiregrass Ranch defense held the Bulldogs to 13 points until 3 minute left in the game and 6 of those first half points came on a very short field following a turnover. The Bulls D got contributions from senior defensive lineman Cameron Hunt who had multiple tackles-for-losses, two quarterback hurries, a sack, and a fumble recovery, sophomore defensive backs Jordan Miner and Shamaur McDowell both had interceptions, and junior defensive lineman Sam Hill had 3 tackle-for-losses, a sack, and a forced fumble. I don’t have the exact number but would estimate that senior linebackler Ty Decaire had double digit tackles, he was force throughout the game.

The Bulls offense struggled throughout the night with only 8 first downs and the longest play from their scrimmage came late in the game when Jordan Miner was inserted as a receiver and took a short pass near the right sidelines and made multiple moves finally getting tackled near the left sidelines after gaining 20 yards. Sophomore running back Daquion “Da Da” McGee had 10 rushes for 60 yards including a 19-yard run in the first quarter. Junior quarterback Chris Faddoul hit on 4-of-22 passes for 46 yards with 1 Interception and had several good gains on read option plays of 9, 11, and 12 yards.

Next week Zephyrhills (1-0) will play on the road against Sunlake (1-0) and Wiregrass Ranch (0-1) plays at Wesley Chapel (0-1).
