Show us your lightning bolts – Shorecrest Prep

ST. PETERSBURG – Shorecrest Prep may be playing their ball as an Independent in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference these days, but the Chargers have a history within the FHSAA classifications when it comes to postseason ball. Things haven’t been as productive as they might want in recent years posting a 43-61 record in the last decade, but Shorecrest actually comes in third all-time in Pinellas County behind Tarpon Springs (18) and Largo (15) with eleven district titles.

The Chargers are also tied for 5th all-time in terms of playoff appearances with East Lake at fifteen. Tarpon Springs also holds that record with 25, while Largo and CCC are tied at number two with 18 appearances each. Lakewood comes in behind those two with 16 appearances all-time and then Shorecrest and East Lake. In the 90’s, the Chargers went to the playoffs seven consecutive seasons from 1992-98. After missing the playoffs in 2009, they went on another streak of four consecutive seasons making the postseason.

The Chargers have even been to back-to-back state championship games in 1975-76, but fell short in those appearances. Shorecrest hosts Cambridge Christian this week in a stiff test as the Lancers put up 77 points last week versus Landmark Christian. The Chargers began their regular season with a victory of Sarasota’s Out-of-Door Academy 18-6.
