Short Capsule: New coach, similar message. The Titans success is directly affected by how they play on defense. Consequently, defensive coordinator, Jayson Roberts is promoted to head coach after the departure of CC Culpepper and a stiff group of applicants go through the interview process. The Titans must continue to play tough defense, where plenty of holes have to be filled. The offense we have come to expect from the Titans is no more. Tech. expects to line up in more pro style and spread sets. But the QB position question, like many teams, must be answered. This spring, the Titans must focus on fundamentals and grasping the new offense.
“Saying Goodbye” (graduation or transfer):
Tim Stewart, LB
Devonte Danzey, OL
Jonathan Williams, QB
Lenevard Delaney, WR
“Hello Again” (key returners or potential Impact Players):
Lamarq Caldwell, RB, 2012
Caleb Tucker, OL, 2012
Kadesh Reaves, DL, 2013
Tre’s Stewart, CB, 2012
“Coach Speak”: “We have an unbelievably hard working and dedicated group of players going into this spring. They really pulled together in the midst of the most successful coach in school history departing and dealing with, not knowing who their head coach would be. I think that says a ton about how special this group is.” ~ Jayson Roberts
“Fun Fact”: TBT is coming off back to back district championships in 2009 and 2010. The last time the Titans were district champions was under John Colbert in 2002, where the Titans posted a 5-6 record.
“Must Have”:
• Have the youngsters play at a high level
• Continue to be stingy defense
• Grasp and execute the new offensive system
“Uh-oh”: TBT can not live off the past. The young Titans must expect to win. Just because they have been successful in the past, if the Titans become complacent or lose their sense of fighting for respect vs. each and every team on each and every down, it will be a disappointing season.
