Romello Sekura, Winter Haven – fighting through tough injury

Romello Sekura
Winter Haven 2015 OL/DL

BCP: What is the toughest decision you had to make in the last few months?
ROMELLO: Recently I had a difficult knee injury and there was two options: Get surgery or play through the pain. I took the decision to not to get surgery so I wouldn’t have to go through a long recovery and miss out on spring football.

BCP: Which is your favorite college and pro football team and why?
ROMELLO: I like the University of Miami and the Pittsburgh Steelers. I love the way both of their defenses bring a big punch to a game, always making a statement.

BCP: What movie, no matter how many times you’ve seen it, do you have to watch when it’s on?
ROMELLO: “Coach Carter!” This movie shows how far hard work and dedication will take a team. Motivation for me to keep going hard!

BCP: What would you most like to learn during the off-season that would help you in the future?
ROMELLO: How to improve on my opportunities so I can have a better skill set for the next level.

BCP: Describe a situation when you took a risk (does not have to be football). What was the outcome?
ROMELLO: I came into high school not sure how’d I’d do in wrestling but I gave it a shot and ended up placing 2nd in the county (Polk County) and took 4th in districts. You only fail if you don’t try!

BCP: Describe a situation in which you aspired to reach a goal. What obstacles did you confront along the way? What did you do to overcome them?
ROMELLO: My freshmen year, I had a goal to excel and play varsity. I had to overcome being undersized and win my battles against the upper classmen. I trained hard and put in extra work to prove I deserved my spot on varsity.

BCP: What kind of role model has your head coach been to you?
ROMELLO: My head coach has been a big role model to me. He demands the best from me not only on the field but in the classroom too.

BCP: If you could trade one of your best talents for another great talent, which would they be and why?
ROMELLO: I would give up my baseball talents for more talent rapping (music) for God.
