Last night, Armwood 2013 QB, Darryl Richardson was extended a scholarship offer from UCLA. The offer is Richardson’s 5th with Tennessee, Ole Miss, Missouri and South Florida.

The offer from UCLA was a direct result of Richardson catching passes, not throwing them. This summer, Darryl participated in the IMG 7 on 7 tournament with a team based out of California. He did not play much QB, but TE and WR. “I like catching the ball” said Richardson. Because he performed so well at the position, UCLA coaches kept in contact with him throughout the summer and fall and felt as though Darryl could be a real asset to their program as an athletic TE.

Currently, Darryl has no visits lined up or favorite schools. “I’m taking this recruiting stuff day by day. I want to let the season play out. But, I think I do want to get out and visit UCLA,” Richardson expressed. He is open to all offers and options at the time and wants the best opportunity. Whether that be throwing passes or catching them.

What is hard to believe, Richardson was not a QB in his youth years. Matter of fact, he did not start organized football until his 9th grade year at Tampa Bay Tech. Until then, he excelled at various sports which included basketball and baseball among others. So, he is still learning the quarterback position.

At 6-5/235lbs, Richardson has options. He is feeling better than ever after two injuries last season slowed him down and stifled his play. A lack of experience at the position and past injuries are Richardson’s biggest hurdle. However, he has strived to improve both.

Right now, the senior Hawk has his focus set on leading Armwood to another remarkable season. “We are getting back on track and hungry,” Darryl Richardson. For now, recruiting is a side dish to the main course of winning each remaining game of the 2012 season. He has his eyes and ears open and will listen to all universities interested in him and his talent.
