Chet: Name 10 c/o 2015 QB’s I should keep my eye out for next season from the Tampa Bay area even out of coverage area kids.

BCP: I will give you 5 that don’t get much media attention. I never show my hand. Keep my cards tight, so I’ll give you 5.

Noah Johnson Armwood
Garrett Young, Cambridge
James Pensyl, Land O’Lakes
Trent Wessel, Jesuit
Caleb Lewis, Victory Christian

Bill: Can inexperienced coaches potentially ruin a kid’s chances to play at the next level if not used in the right way? If so, what is your advice to these kids?

BCP: A high school football coach is hired to win football games. To be honest and blunt, that’s it. Along the way, many do and have taken players under their wing and one way or another, help players or tried to help players grow as young men.

THEN, some coach a long time ago started networking with college coaches and promoted his players to schools just because he wanted do what he could to help his players get to play college ball at the institutions expense.

HOWEVER, #2 (Mentoring) and #3 (promoting) are not required of a high school coach. MANY do it because it is EXPECTED and they love seeing the kids get the opportunity.

The job of a high school football coach requires him to place players in positions to help HIS high school team win games. Not so an individual players gets looks as a college prospect. That is his primary responsibility.

So, to answer the question, can he ruin a kid’s chances…sure! But, it’s not done for that purpose. AND at no time would a coach THINK of “ruin” to describe his purpose for playing a kid at a certain position, play or not play a kid. Every school has a player on their team where the head coach tells a college coach, “We have to play him at that position by necessity. He is more of a ‘blank’ and has the ability to play ‘blank.’” So “ruin” would be a strong word.

My advice would be, showcase and camp. Show promoters, media and college coaches that “you” can play at different positions.

Lane: Any kids in the area that you see as the next generation NFL studs?

BCP: No way of telling that. We don’t even look that far ahead.

Will: There are a bunch of 8-man man varsity football teams in the area going through the Florida Christian Association of Private and Parochial Schools. Lots of great players go to these small Christian schools because of their parents, and the league has tons of talent. Why don’t you guys cover us at all?

BCP: College football plays with 11 men on the field at a time. In order to evaluate players to be college football players, they must play in a similar setting (11 men on the field).

Andre: Is it possible for a player to make the All BCP Team but not the Fire 79? What is the difference?

BCP: YES! The difference is:

All BCP TEAM – Production list, per position from the concluding season. Doesn’t matter how talented or lack of talent. Just matters how he produces on the field vs. the level of competition.

FIRE 79 – Best college prospects in the junior and sophomore classes. We are evaluating players as potential college prospects. Not good high school football players. Measurables, skill set, explosiveness, speed, impact. Not necessarily because his 2012 statistics/Production like the ALL BCP TEAM.

Gregory: What do you think about Jesuit’s running back Kevin Newman and do you see him as a d1 running back.

BCP: Big Body kid. Runs best between the tackles. He will likely be a 1AA-D1 level kid. Needs a big spring (May evaluation month).

Sam: Wharton is never talked about. Do you see anything good over there either on offense or defense? They have gone to the playoff the last couple years but you rarely hear anything.

BCP: Wharton is talked about plenty. Click HERE (14 pages worth of Wharton mentions). They have a few good looking kids on the offensive line, a few LBs and a couple in the secondary that I know of right now. Wharton has been a little better than average the last 3 years (playoff years 20-13). Going to playoffs is not good enough. The better teams…win. Unfortunately, Wharton has been knocked out the playoffs round 1 each of the last three seasons. In addition, they have yet to take down the elite teams as in Armwood, Plant and Dr. Phillips. SEE HERE
