PINELLAS COUNTY

PREGAME: East Lake and CCC toe to toe

To understand the magnitude of this game, you must understand the dynamics of the match-up. Clearwater Central Catholic is classified as a 3A small school, while East Lake is in the largest classification, 8A. Last season, East Lake was expected to beat CCC convincingly. That didn’t happen. Both teams clawed at the scoreboard finishing regulation tied at 20.

In OT, CCC won the coin toss and selected to defend. East Lake, after a few snaps, successfully kicked a field goal to go up 23-20.  CCC had a chance to respond. Marauders put together a great drive, take the ball down to the two-yard line, but fumbled. The ball rolled through the end zone for a touchback. East Lake survives a scare.

East Lake enters the 2012 season highly ranked again with CCC looking to upset the Eagles at home. Similar situation as last season. East Lake has lots of talent, four players ranked in our top 49. CCC is expected to be very good also. An upgraded defense and more experienced quarterback.

MOST TO PROVE
Surprisingly, East Lake. Eagles need to prove they are a good team. Good teams beat the teams they are expected to beat and win the games they are not expected to win.

BIGGEST IMPACT ON SEASON
A win for CCC will spark a gas fire for Marauder Nation. East Lake is the best team on their schedule and if they can beat the best team on their regular season schedule, it will be hard for any other team to intimidate or crack their confidence.

OUT OF NOWHERE GAME
CCC, defensive end, Jordan Adderly. Credited with only 1 tackle in the game last year, he will have a chance to really put his stamp on this game. He and Troy Olmo will have to make life uncomfortable for Pete Dinovo and cause havoc in the backfield to give CCC a better chance for an upset.

STOP HIM
Artavis Scott, East Lake 2014 WR – If Scott can’t be stopped, he must be contained. He is East Lake’s most dynamic player and led all receivers last year in this game with 3 receptions for 68 yards and 1 TD. Marauders need to make QB, Pete Dinovo find another option. Don’t let Artavis Scott beat you!

BIGGEST QUESTION
Can East Lake rush the football? And with you? Eagles have to replace 1500 yard rusher Tyler Lane. Lane rushed for 83 yards last season vs CCC on 11 carries. Versus Charlotte in the preseason classic, seven different players carried the ball for East Lake. Weston Fordham led all Eagle rushers with 22 yards on 5 carries.
