One of the biggest games of the year will be played this Saturday night between Plant and Jesuit. Plant has shown tremendous respect for their upcoming opponent. And Jesuit has done just the same. But what is the mindset of the Tigers going into a game of this magnitude?

Senior WR, Travis Johnson loves the big game atmosphere, but takes it game by game. “Just win games. Everyone has the belief that they want to win state and district championship. But, you can’t do that without winning each week. That’s just our outlook on it right now. If we win each week, we will win that ultimate goal.”

Plant is good and all, but Johnson admits, every game is big for him. “I personally look at each week with the same importance, win! Build that confidence and keep going. To play a team like Plant that is recognized nationally, year in and year out. To have that under your belt is pretty good. Personally I just want to win every game. It’s gonna be good to hit some other pads other than our own.”

Plant RB, Wesley Bullock thinks the over aggressive Jesuit defense will give him the opportunity to make some plays. Travis Johnson thinks the man to man match-ups with the Plant secondary will provide him an opportunity to make a few plays himself. “They have confidence in their defensive backs that they can cover people, so I think that will create some opportunities for us. They disguise the defense very well.”

Jesuit has a number of coaches on staff that coached at Plant in the past with Robert Weiner including head coach James Harrell, who was the co-defensive coordinator when Plant won the state championship in 2006. “We have a good understanding of what they like to do,” says Johnson.

Senior LB, Parker Clonts is a bit more animated, “We’re fired up. We know what we gotta do! It was a bummer we didn’t get to play last week. But, I don’t think that is going to effect us too much. We have been working hard during practice. We just want to hit another team, a different color jersey.”

There may be some questions that need to be answered on offense but the defense is expected to be strong this year. “Our defense is strong this year. We have pretty much the same starters for three years now. We are going to shock the state this year.”
