Prior to the 2012 football season, the Tampa Catholic Crusaders quarterback situation was not set in stone. Chivarsky Corbett stepped aside to focus on hoops while Mitchell Norden and Kyle Ploucher competed for the starting job with Ploucher eventually being the guy.

Kyle Ploucher is heading into his second season as the Crusaders starting QB after transferring from Plant. As a first year starter this past season, Ploucher threw for 1306 yards completing .50 percent of his passes, 14 TDs and 13 interceptions.

Solid numbers for a first year starting QB, but Ploucher wants to get better and knows what he needs to focus on, “I can improve on my shoulders. They are too tight when I drop back.” However, “My strengths are having a strong arm, good footwork and being able to move in and out of the pocket.” All observations we would have stated in Ploucher’s evaluation.

THE COMPETITION
“A player I compete with daily in the weight room is Justin Vertino. I compete with TJ Harrell and Justin Motlow in conditioning. They run track and I try to work as hard as they do. In practice, I compete with Nick Villa. He is my back up quarterback and he is always trying to get better and that keeps me working hard.

No verbal offers yet for Ploucher. Receiving interest from Memphis and has plans to visit the campus next weekend for Junior Day and their spring game.

THE BACKBONE
“My biggest influence in football is probably my father. He never played football in college but he is always there when I need advice. Also Mike Fenton (Tampa Catholic assistant coach) and Mike Gregory (Tampa Catholic head coach) are always helping me and there for me.” – Kyle Ploucher

BCP
“The Big County Preps events have prepared me and helped me be a leader at my school and on my team. They also have helped me with my mechanics and showing me new drills. The showcases and camps have helped me get prepared for when I went to the Nike camp, and other camps. The talks the coaches gave us during and at the end of the camp, have help me develop leadership.” – Kyle Ploucher
