Plenty of interest, but no trigger pulled for Steinbrenner DL Alex Vega

Alex Vega, Steinbrenner, OT, 2012

LUTZ – Steinbrenner defensive lineman Alex Vega has been a top team prospect for the last two seasons, but nothing has been offered to him just yet.

According to Vega, schools showing interest are: Florida Atlantic, Florida Tech, Eastern Illinois, Presbyterian and Stetson.

He has talked directly to the coaches of EIU and Presbyterian, but the senior who had 40 tackles and six sacks in 2011, is a little surprised an offer hasn’t been given to him.

“I’ve talked to those coaches directly and in person, just nothing happening yet.” said Vega, whose double duty on the offensive and defensive line propelled the Warriors to a 7-3 record in 2011.

Elsewhere at Steinbrenner, senior running back Zack Jones is getting a hard look by Stetson University. However the senior says he isn’t ready to commit until he goes through and sorts out his options.

Jones had 709 all-purpose yards for the Warriors this year, including a school record 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Chamberlain in November.
