No fancy title needed: Deiondre Porter, 2014 ATH QB Jefferson

Deiondre Porter, Jefferson 2014 QB

Watching a prospect go from “Good” to “Really Good,” is not an overnight process. It comes from growing from failure, working on weaknesses and training to improve the craft. Once this happens, his confidence starts to rise and you can see it in his game.

Deiondre Porter
2014 ATH QB Jefferson

In Porter’s case (It seems from the outside looking in) he finally has the command of the team. He is not just the quarterback, he is the leader of the team and there is no confusion. Watching him last year, he played well. He put up great numbers and he won games. He was a 3rd Team ALL BCP selection with 157/256 .61 completion %, 2276 yards, 227. Y/G, 27 TDs, 13 INTs. His numbers were good, but his team only played 10 games in 2012 (missed the playoffs).

The goal for 2013, “State Title.” Im sure if you ask Porter what are his personal goals for 2013, he will not say anything close to “Throw for 30 TDs and 3,000 yards.” Though a great feat. His response would likely be more team oriented. “Win game 1, win game 10, win a state championship. Led my team to an undefeated season” would likely be his response. His maturity away from the football has helped him see the big picture and his play reflects just that.

Currently a South Florida Bull verbal commitment as a defensive back, I would not count him out as the quarterback of the future. Keep this in perspective, the film below is the preseason classic.  The opponent was not in midseason form and this is only one game for Porter. However, if this game is any indication of how his season may go, his personal numbers may go through the roof and his team will thrive off his personal production. He throws the ball with confidence. He feels the rush like never before. He played each snap like it was the last play of the game and his team was down by 2. Without rambling, his preseason classic performance was very impassive.
