Nate Simmons, Newsome big back – The game puts him in a zone

Nate Simmons, Newsome

This could be the year for 6 foot 1 inch Newsome RB, Nate Simmons. Last month, he posted a 7.66 3 cone, 4.5 short shuttle, 19.1 med ball press and 8.03 broad jump at the Ignite Showcase. Simmons has really good measurables and posted good combine numbers. But will this be the year the sophomore RB breaks out?

We wanted to find out more about the 2016 Newsome Wolf and he let us into his world in the following Q & A.

BCP: Was football your first love? If not which sport was?
NATE: Without a doubt football was my first love! Nothing compares to it to me.

BCP: What attracted you to the game of football?
NATE: people that surround football attracted me. The fact that those you play with are not teammates, they are family and you’ll do anything for them. The fact I could hit someone and not get in trouble of course! And finally the escape. The game takes me away and zones everything around me out, all that matters in getting that “W” for your school and brothers.

BCP: How would you critic your 2013 individual season?
NATE: I describe my 2013 season as growing up and very good for myself. Playing JV was a blast and the team and myself did great. Once moving up to varsity I didn’t see the field till the end of the season but it was worth the starting position. It was progress.

BCP: What goals have you established for this offseason?
NATE: My goals are to get stronger, mentally and physically. To get my speed up especially. And to be a leader to my boys!

BCP: What is your dream school?
NATE: My dream school would have to be LSU #GeauxTigers!

BCP: What college and pro player do you idealize?
NATE: Odell Beckham Jr. and Drew Brees. Not only are they outstanding athletes but they are major leaders to their team. They are also true men of God and work with the community around them!

BCP: What have you learned over your past few BCP Events?
NATE: I’ve learned to push myself, to improve from event to event. Also that college doesn’t just come, you’ve gotta get your name out there and be smart off the field.

BCP: What is the most enjoyable part of the BCP events you have attended?
NATE: The most enjoyable part is seeing the coaches get hyped about big plays! And making friendships with players from rival schools along with playing 7 on 7.

BCP: Are any schools showing recruiting interest yet?
NATE: No schools have shown interest.

BCP: Do you plan on visiting any college campuses or attending any college football camps this off-season?
NATE: Absolutely! Both, visiting and going to camps. Will most likely check out Florida schools (being in state) and and go to UF, USF football camps. Maybe if I’m lucky will attend LSU’s camp while visiting family there.
