Mic’d Up: 2020 Durant RB David Haynes Is A Smooth Operator

Plant City, June 14, 2019- Happy TGIF everyone. Today we close out the week with another senior leader, this time on the offensive side, in running back David Haynes. The two-year athlete led the Cougars’ backfield efficiency, had the longest break-out run and posted the only 100-yard plus game for Durant this 2018 season.

Running circles around guys is nothing new to this two-sport talent who also runs track in his “off-season” to stay one stride ahead of his competitors. Haynes’ footwork, acceleration bouncing through defensive gaps and unquestionable endurance were easily apparent components on camp-day last Sunday and in the dissected highlight reel. He’s a reliable asset in many senses of the word; striving for the multi-purpose and every-down back title are at the top of David’s list.

In 7 games played in his junior campaign per MaxPreps data, the 5’10” 181-pound rusher made defenders reap the number six on his back, tallying 322 rushing yards on 61 carries, averaging 5.3 YPC, never fumbled once, and recorded 1 TD. Haynes’ top performance came in a 24-6 W over Strawberry Crest where he ran for 101 yards on just 13 touches, averaging 7.8 YPC and a long haul of 53 yards, tacking on his one endzone find.
