BCP E7-Warner standout Steven Phillips (Liberty 2014 RB 6-0/195 lbs) does not have a verbal offer yet. But, they are sure to come. Especially when scouts see the 6-0 foot back running over and past defenders. He has started to pick up some interest, though he is still under the radar, “The school that is showing heavy interest as of right now is North Dakota State University which came to visit me yesterday at practice and I have received multiple letters from Middle Tennessee State, also one from Michigan. No offers yet.”
Last season, Phillips led the team in rushing touchdowns, nominated for All County, nominated for All Conference and ranked #5 in the county in rushing yards. “My focus this off season has been mental and physical. I have been working hard on my footwork and my speed and staying low.”
On film, Phillips shows he can do a lot. He can line up and be productive at several positions and run the ball with a few different styles. He can be a bruiser when need be or a finesse back when called for. “My best asset as a player is that I’m versatile. Being a big back in high school, a lot of teams underestimate my speed. They think I’m all power, where as I like to use my power and speed while running through the holes. Also just wanting to learn more about the game and being eager to get better.”
HOW DOES PHILLIPS STACK UP AGAINST THE BEST BACKS IN THE STATE?
“There are some great backs in Florida and in the class of 2014 as we all know. But I know that I’m up there with them because I work just as hard, if not harder and I’m always ready to give my ‘A’ game and give it all I got. I’m a 6’0 foot back that carries 195 lbs and I’m just as fast as the 5’10” backs. With the hard work I put in, my footwork and speed, it is just going to get better.”
