Leadership comes with the territory for Boca’s Wimbush

Jaylaan Wimbush, Boca Ciega WR #7

Boca Ciega will open the season with 4 straight games versus 2012 playoff teams.  Their schedule is competitive as well as their district.  Squashed between Lakewood, Gibbs, Dunedin and Tarpon Springs, Pirate leadership will be crucial.

Jaylaan Wimbush, Boca Ciega 2014 ATH has been a fixture in the program for the past three years.  Going into his senior season, the 6-0/175 lbs captain has developed an infectionous attitude,   “As a multi year starter I am responsible for having all the leadership traits that a team captain holds. I am also expected to make plays at all times but be spectacular when I have to.”

Wimbush has played several position including free safety, strong safety, special teams and wide receiver.  His “Do what ever it takes” attitude is what Boca Ciega is building on. Improving each season under third year head coach, Antez Brinson, the Pirates confidense is building with each camp, tournament and season. Team goals are just like any other prospect, make the playoffs and make a strong run in the playoffs.  But his personal goals are simple, “My motivation for my senior season is to get a good scholarship to a great college.”

Florida International, South Florida, Appalachian State and Iowa State are showing Wimbush the most recruiting attention currently. “I love all the coaches that I come in contact with,” says Jaylaan.  No offers yet, interest growing and things will begin to fall inline for this Pirate senior.

SO WHAT’S NEXT? BHSN/BCP 9 ROUTE
“My expectations are to go further than last year and that’s the championship round. We lost last year in the semi finals and that was the beginning. Now we take it to the next level.” Boca was a surprise team last summer. Not this year. No team will take them lightly and they will be expected to make some noise again.

A team that takes on the demeanor of their head coach, disciplined, collected and hungry, Wimbush is a great example of student athletes who wear the Pirate jersey.  The focus in on a great 2013 season.  Until that time arrives, the bricks keep going up on the foundation.
