#3 Largo travels to #8 East Lake today to take on Pete Dinovo and the the 3-1 East Lake Eagles. Both teams have been very good early, but the Largo Packers have been slightly better. The Packers will get off the bus at East Lake stadium, an impressive 4-0. Led by 2013 QB, Juwan Brown who has just been electric.

This is the tenth meeting between the 2 programs. Largo leading the all time series 8-2. The games have not be annual until 2007. Before the 2007 game, which Largo shutout the Eagles 20-0, the teams played in 1989, 1990, 2003 and 2004. Largo won 3 of 4 of those games with East Lake winning in 2004 by the score of 35-22.

Since then, Largo has owned the series defeating East Lake each year except 2010, since 2007 including a regular season and playoff game in 2007. The Eagles did pull off an impressive win in 2010, winning 21-7. Overall, Largo has outscored East Lake 216-109 and has pitched a shutout three times.

The two teams have exchanged wins over the past 3 seasons and this year looks to be another good game. East Lake took an early punch to the chin versus North Pinellas rival Countryside, losing 27-14. Countryside is the only common opponent and the Packers crushed the Countryside Cougars 28-7.

Both teams are averaging near the same amount of points per game (Largo – 30.4 and East Lake -25.3), but Largo has been slightly better on defense. Allowing just 43 points in 4 games as the Eagles have given up 69. Largo excels in the second quarter, averaging nearly 12 points in that period and East Lake has finished games strong. Putting up nearly 10 points in the fourth quarter of each contest.

East Lake QB Pete Dinovo has been solid: 196 passing yards per game and 220 total yards per game. This game will come down to offensive possessions and clock management. East Lake will have to wear down the Packer defense and convert on drive of 10-15 plays. Largo will need to strike fast and play good defense. The team with least amount of mistakes and solid special teams will win this game.
