In Sunlake’s 33-22 win over Wiregrass Ranch, rising senior Nathan Johnson set the tone in the first quarter with a 36-yard touchdown run on his way to 18 carries for 93 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, a rushing 2-Point conversion, and 2 catches for 17 receiving yards. Johnson run well inside and has the ability to get yards after first contact.

Seahawks rising junior Nick Valdes displayed excellent vertical leaping ability in second quarter on a 28-yard Catch to set up Sunlake’s third touchdown and on his 13-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter.

Sunlake’s defensive unit had a number of strong performances. Rising senior linebacker Austin Yeloushan, who has really good size and game speed, had 2 sacks, 2 tackle-for-losses (also had a 7-yard TD catch on offense). Rising sophomore Chris Galdos set up the second Seahawks touchdown with a sack that forced a fumble in second quarter and set up the Seahawks fourth touchdown with a third quarter interception; Galdos also had a tackle-for-loss and displayed good closing speed throughout the night. Rising senior defensive lineman Kalon Gipson has good size with a high motor and had 2 tackle-for-losses and a sack.

Wiregrass Ranch’s Key Performances

Rising senior Shane Bucenell is a mobile passer, tough and athletic, was 8 of 16 passes for 142 yards, 1 TD passing & a 2-Point conversion pass, 1 Interception, 1 rushing TD, and had nearly 50 kickoff return yards. In the second quarter, Bucenell hit rising junior Brendon Kozicki on an impressive back shoulder pass near the left sidelines for a 47-yard touchdown pass. Kozicki is a crafty receiver who later in the quarter saw his QB in trouble and got behind the defense for another 47-yard catch setting up the second Bulls score; he had 3 catches for 100 yards in that quarter.

Bulls Top Prospects rising seniors linebacker Jaye Miner and WR/DB Mark Hutchinson both showed versatility with Miner lining up several times as a receiver including taking a screen pass 14 yards for the game’s 1st first down on third and long and catching a 2-Point Conversion in second quarter and Hutchinson lining up a few plays as halfback in second and third quarters and rushing 3 times for 29 yards breaking multiple tackles along the way.
