Juwan Brown, Largo 2013 QB/S

How good has Largo’s 2013 QB been? Try this: 100 completions, 138 attempts  .725 completion %, 1610 pass yards, 146.4 pass yards per game, 22 pass TDs,  0 interceptions  and a Maxpreps QB rating of 151. To simplify it, Brown completes 3 of every 4 passes and is good for a TD pass every 73 yards.

One word to describes his 2013 performance which had led his team to a District Title and 10-0 season, “AMAZING”!  Juwan has been so good, it prompted us to look up some recent greats and their numbers.  So, we compared Juwan Brown’s QB rating to Ex-Plant QBs, Robert Marve and Aaron Murray, along with Ex-Jefferson QB, Quentin Williams.

Let’s explain what a QB rating is and how Maxpreps calculates theirs.  QB/passer rating is a measure of the performance by a passer.  Basically tells you how efficient a passer is.  The higher the number, the more effecient the passer is.

MAXPREPS CALCULATION
1. Divide a quarterback’s completed passes by pass attempts.
2. Subtract 0.3.
3. Divide by 0.2 and record the total. The sum cannot be greater than 2.375 or less than zero.
4. Divide passing yards by pass attempts.
5. Subtract 3.
6. Divide by 4 and record the total. The sum cannot be greater than 2.375 or less than zero.
7. Divide touchdown passes by pass attempts.
8. Divide by 0.05 and record the total. The sum cannot be greater than 2.375 or less than zero.
9. Divide interceptions by pass attempts.
10. Subtract that number from 0.095.
11. Divide that product by 0.04 and record the total. The sum cannot be greater than 2.375 or less than zero.
12. Add the four totals you recorded.
13. Multiply that total by 100.
14. Divide by 6.
15. The final number is your quarterback rating.

Now that you have an understanding what a QB rating is, let’s look at at Brown vs. some of the best. Currently, Juwan has a QB rating of 151. In 2010, when Jefferson won the state championship, Q. Williams had a QB rating of 140. Aaron Murray had a QB rating of 135 in 2007 and 130 for his 2008 Championship run. Current Purdue QB, Robert Marve had a QB rating of 126 when his 15-0 Plant Panthers won the 6A state Championship.

J. Brown, Largo – 2012, 151 QBR
Q. Williams, Jefferson – 2010, 140 QBR (Bethune Cookman)
A. Murray, Plant – 2007, 135 QBR (Georgia)
A. Murray, Plant – 2008, 130 QBR
R. Marve, Plant – 2006, 126 QBR (Purdue)

Compared to some of Tampa Bay’s leaders in passing yards, Brown soars above them:
P. Dinovo, East Lake – 104 QBR
T. Degen, Fivay – 106 QBR
D. Porter, Jefferson – 100 QBR
C. Litton, Wharton – 99 QBR
T. Hyde, Strawberry Crest – 81 QBR

Several different QBs, a couple different offensive systems and awesome players. The biggest difference between Brown and the others, the others have won a state championship which Brown and his Largo Parkers are seeking.
