Impact Player: Cris Galdos – Sunlake

The Sunlake Seahawks’ Roster is chocked full of players that aren’t flashy–but simply get the job done by any means necessary and have established themselves as one of those teams that are heading in the right direction–and fast. Junior RB/OLB Cris Galdos is one of those many talented players for the ‘Hawks that isn’t going to light up the stat sheets week-in and week-out, but instead will provide that consistency that Coach Browning and his Staff–and teammates as well have come to expect and love from Galdos. His impact this season and last–is what makes him so vital to the overall picture for Sunlake.slhs1

He stands at just 5-foot-7, and weighs 170-pounds–but Galdos epitomizes what it means to play bigger than the frame. He’s active and those numbers over the past two season on varsity tend to bear witness to that. Last season as a sophomore, Galdos posted 75 tackles–50 of them solo–while recording five sacks and an interception. He was also credited with three passes defensed, a fumble recovery, a fumble caused–and a blocked field goal attempt. He also posted multiple 10-tackle games last season.

This season–Galdos has been asked to play a role in the offensive scheme for Head Coach Bill Browning. He’s carried the ball seven times for 41 yards, while catching 16 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns. He’s even contributed in the return game with 50 yards under his belt in that area as well.

On defense, Galdos has been his same-old self posting 72 tackles–54 solo–with 14 of those for loss–while also adding four sacks, six QB hurries, four interceptions, two passes defensed, three fumble recoveries to go with three caused fumbles and two blocked extra-point attempts.

The Seahawks are a relatively new program having been established in 2007–winning just a total of five games their first three seasons and posting a 5-25 record. From 2010 till the present? –Sunlake has gone 54-15 and are in the postseason for the fourth time in five years with an 8-2 record. This week, they will travel to Ocala to take on Vanguard (8-2)–who are the 6A-5 Champions.
