Lake Wales returns to the field this Friday Night ready for a 2014 season full of goals and expectations. The Highlanders will face off against Kathleen for the preseason kickoff classic at Lake Wales. TaVarius Johnson takes over as the new head coach for Lake Wales after legendary coach; Rod Shafer took the head-coaching job at Warner University.
The Highlanders have a gang of talented players and one of those happens to be 6-4/290 pound 2016 OT Ean Biancardi. The sophomore offensive lineman will be a big part of the offensive production, counted on to open holes and protect the quarterback in pass protection.
Last season the Highlanders were 9-5 and undefeated in the district. The offense produced over 400 points and 4500 yards on the ground and through the air. Even though those numbers are extremely good, Biancardi says the goals for this year are bigger and better!
How has the transition been with the new head coach?
Biancardi: The transition has been going well. I strongly believe in coach Johnson as a head coach and believe he will lead us to a successful season.
What has been the team message throughout the summer?
Biancardi: The team message has been to come together as a family. If we strengthen our bond as brothers we will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
What team will be your toughest opponent and what will the team need to do to secure a win?
Biancardi: I believe one of our tougher opponents this year will be Mainland. But, no matter whom we go up against we’re going to execute intensively. It’s obvious we have the players to come out on top.
What player do you think will be your toughest challenge as an individual?
Biancardi: I play with the mindset to dominate the player across from me, no matter the stars, ranking, or size.
What have you learned about the recruiting process this offseason?
Biancardi: I’ve learned that it’s very easy to get a big head, so staying humble during it all is important.
What schools are recruiting you the hardest?
Biancardi: FIU, FAU, Indiana, FSU, and Auburn
What are your strength and weakness?
Biancardi: My strengths are probably my drive blocking, but I need to work on my speed.
