BAY AREA BITES HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

Hillsborough county schools left at a disadvantage

Hillsborough county football has dominated the Tampa Bay area, and the state for quite some time. The county is home to six different state champions, and have won three in the last three years. Jesuit, Blake, Pinecrest, Armwood, Plant and Jefferson have all brought home the ultimate prize for the county.

Even still – the county is constantly left at a disadvantage to not only the schools in the surrounding counties but the entire state. While Pinellas, Pasco and the rest of the state plays a full spring game, Hillsborough county plays one half. And if you were at a number of locations Thursday night, you didn’t even get to play your full, half of a game.

Players, coaches and parents sacrifice for nearly four weeks, putting in all the hard work going through the daily grind of spring football for 24 minutes of football. Why? What benefit comes from playing 24 minutes of football? Why can every other county manage to play a full game, yet Hillsborough county can only manage to play one half?

Over 100 college coaches visited Hillsborough County schools to visit with high school coaches, shake hands with potential prospects, acquire grade summary reports and attend practices. Much was accomplished, yet the spring game is the climax of the spring football season. Potential prospects are on their biggest stage yet. Performing infront of numerous college coaches, trying to make a good impression competing against another team in a live game. The evaluation of the spring game can be the difference in a prospect rising on the college recruiting board.

Oh, and to top it all off, those games that were rained out will not be rescheduled.
