Countryside Cougars down Tarpon Spring Spongers

At Countryside, the Class 7A, District 9 Champs Cougars defeat the visiting Class 6A Tarpon Springs Spongers 38-3 in this Spring contest.

Countryside’s Kicker Ryan Pandy opened the scoring with a 56 yard Field Goal.  He was also good on all 5 extra points and had 5 touchbacks on kickoffs to keep the Spongers pinned deep in their own territory most of the night.

Robby Hicks started as Cougars Quarterback and played the first half going 6 for 10 with 111 yards including connecting with Marreio Taylor on 48 yard TD pass to make score 10-0 midway in 1st Quarter. Taylor ended with 3 catches for 82 yards.

In 1st half, Michael Tsalickis led Cougars on the ground with 7 carry for 31 yards including a 2 yard TD run midway in 2nd quarter to go up 17-0. Cougar’s Ryan Yates capped the scoring in the first half with a 64 yard Interception Return to the house to make score 24-0.

Countryside’s Donovan Kerby added two touchdown runs of 5 and 36 yards in 4th quarter to advance the score to 38-0. Kerby finished with 4 carries and 66 yards.

Cougars DE Mike Love made an impact with a blocked 34 yard FG attempt and two tackles for loss.

For Tarpon Springs, Kenyatta Merriex had 3 catches for 43 yards (all in the 1st quarter) and had an 80 yard kickoff return in 4th quarter.

Spongers Eric Kehoe had an interception in 2nd quarter, Damarkus Jones came up with a fumble recovery, and Arkell Jones added a sack.

Tarpon Springs Kicker, Louis Zervos, hit a 43 yard Field Goal at end of game with no time left on clock for final score of 38-3.
