RECRUITING FEATURES THE BOX

Good players not in the most successful programs

The question will never stop being asked, “Should I transfer my son to a more successful program so he can gain recruiting exposure?” The answer is not an easy one and there are many variables to consider before making such a decision. However, I have listed some good examples of current players who have weathered the storm through bad times and are getting lots of recruiting attention even though they do not play for a highly successful high school football program.

Shavar Manuel, Blake DE 2016 6-4/245
– Blake 12-38 in the last 5 seasons
The Yellow Jackets have had 4 head football coaches in 5 seasons. Averaging just over 2 wins per year.  Blake has not been really good on the field in recent years. Matter of fact, their last winning season was 2000 when Clarence Higdon lead them to a 6-5 season and District Wildcard playoff birth. Though the black and yellow have struggled, Shavar Manuel is a diamond in the rough. The only person who can stop his rise to greatness is himself. He is extremely talented and raw at the same time. The good news is, he has time. Just a rising sophomore, Manuel is one of the top defensive ends in the area.

Scott Patchan, Freedom DE 2015 6-4/210
– Freedom 20-33 in the last 5 seasons
Same as Blake, Freedom has struggled to retain their head football coach. Todd Donohoe is the 4th head football coach for the Patriots since 2008. Lots of players have come and gone, but it seems like Donohoe has his program on the right track. One player who believes in the message is IGNITE DE MVP, Soctt Patchan. Though he has not won a lot of games in his short career, he is gaining lots of recruiting attention. Even has a verbal offer from the South Florida Bulls.

Dacorius Law Haines City RB 2014 6-0 190
– Haines City 15-36 in the last 5 seasons
The Haines City Hornets have averaged just 3 wins a year since 2008. Not a whole lot to be proud of if you keep up with the wins and losses. But, in the midst of it all, The Hornets have the best running back in the area carrying the ball. Law is a complete player who has received offers from Wisconsin and Indiana to name a few. Law almost has more verbal offers than wins in his high school career.

Lucious Everett Tenoroc DE 2014 6-4 205
– Teneroc 12-38 in the last 5 seasons
After a 0-10 first season in 2008, the Titans have managed to only muster up 12 wins since. Still a young program and building, but they have struggled to consistently improve yearly. 3 wins in 2009, 4 wins in 2010 and 2011 and just one win last season. With the struggle, the Titans have a gift in Lucious Everett. Has the chance to be a dominant player and a big time, late blooming prospect. He is gaining attention by the day and will likely pull his first verbal offer in the next few weeks.
