Garrett Rentz, Durant 6-5 TE “…use my height to occupy a space that defensive backs can’t get to.”

When the ball is in the air, there is only one thing that can happen…The most dominant player comes down with it. That’s the attitude the great players have. They have the ability to focus in on the target, fight through contact and bring down the pass when it can be contested. Garrett Rentz, Durant 2015 6-5 TE/WR is not considered a “Great” player. Most would consider him a “sleeper.” The type of player, who many are unaware of, but makes big time plays.

Please watch the film first and then read his Q & A. It will help understand his attitude and answers.

BCP: What are you working on this off-season?

GARRETT: Becoming a well-rounded receiver and improving my overall strength, speed, and size.

BCP: On a scale of A to F, how would you grade your 2013 season and why?

GARRETT: I would give myself a B because although I did a lot of things well and made some pretty good plays, I have a lot of room for improvement and there are some things I could have done better.

BCP: What is the best part of your game and why?

GARRETT: The ability to highpoint the ball and use my height to occupy a space that defensive backs can’t get to.

BCP: Would your teammates consider you a leader or a really good follower and why?

GARRETT: My teammates would consider me a leader because I always try to set an example and work to not only make myself better but my teammates as well.

BCP: Describe a situation when you took a risk (does not have to be football). What was the outcome?

GARRETT: Playing football was originally a risk for me. When I started in 7th grade I didn’t really know what to expect. But now after playing for 5 years it has made me a better athlete as well as a better person.

BCP: Describe a situation in which you aspired to reach a goal. What obstacles did you confront along the way? What did you do to overcome them?

GARRETT: I often set academic goals to try and motivate myself and help me to become a better student. Taking multiple AP classes is not easy but by understanding what I want out of myself as a student I can manage my time better and comprehend the material at a higher level.

BCP: What kind of role model has your head coach been to you?

GARRETT: My head coach has been a big influence on me. He frequently preaches fundamentals and hard work to help me stay at the top of my game and has led me to understand how critical it is that I make good decisions because the choices I make now will affect me for the rest of my life.

BCP: If you could trade one of your best talents for another great talent, which would they be and why?

GARRETT: I don’t think I would trade any of my talents. I am who I am and if I tried to change certain aspects of my game then I wouldn’t be the same person or player.
