RECRUITING THE BOX

Friday digest at Plant, Jesuit, East Lake and Bdale

Growth Plates
Two guys that have limitless upside/biggest room for growth to me (which is my interpretation of the question) are East Lake ILB Brendan Goettel and Bloomingdale RB Eugene Baker. Goettel is just a sophomore and is only going into his second season at the spot, but is already averaging just over 11 tackles per game. He’s in the infant stages of development at the position, yet made 1st Team All-BCP as a freshman. Baker is in the Class of 2013 and is returning on the heels of a 1,200+ yard season. Although the Bulls are going to have more than just him as a weapon, he will be one of the main reasons why guys like Cody Crouse and Adam Posateri have breakout seasons, which is the mark of good player when they make others around them better. The Bulls will need the balance on offense and Baker may be just the guy to provide it. At 6-0, 200lbs. and growing he has the frame to handle the workload as well. ~Doug Pugh

Late but, better than never
Jesuit 2014 DE/LB, Vincent Jackson picked up a verbal scholarship offer from Rutgers last Monday bringing his total to 5 as a rising junior.  The 6-2/235lbs prospect is scheduled to travel to Coral Gables this weekend for The Miami Hurricanes Junior Day.  Jackson unofficially visited Florida for their Junior Day and said via text “I absolutely loved it”. Other offers include: Duke, UCF, Rutgers, USF, ND

Inventory of QBs
I attended Plant’s practice yesterday and watched 4 starting QBs perform.  Basically saying that all for of the QBs competing for the #1 job are pretty good and could start for the Plant Panthers.  Cool and collected, Weiner called played, joked around with his QBs and coached his boys. As it looks, Plant is in for another QB battle.  Aaron Banks, Kyle Groh, Kyle Ploucher and newcomer Colby Brown all did well and are equally talented. Both Banks and Groh are 2013 athletes while Ploucher and Brown are just sophomores. All 4 QBs were darn good and tossed the ball well. ~Preston Jackson
