AROUND THE STATE

First impressions of tentative districts

8A-6

Alonso, Bloomingdale, Newsome, Plant, Riverview, Wharton

Favorites will likely be Plant and Wharton. I really like Newsome in the mix who can throw a monkey wrench in things. Bloomingdale and Alonso are the icing on the cake. Really level district with Plant slightly above the rest.

7A-7
Freedom , Gaither, Steinbrenner,Sickles,Tampa Bay Tech, Wiregrass Ranch

Sickles just made this district one to keep an eye on. Now Gaither and Sickles are playing for more than just bragging rights. It counts! TBT, Steinbrenner and Gaither return their QBs. Wiregrass and Freedom will be looking to get back on the right track. But Sickles just made this district a really good one.

6A-8
Armwood, Blake, Chamberlain, Hillsborough, Jefferson, King, Leto, Lennard, Robinson

Just not cool. Improving Chamberlain team, two 2012 district champs and two teams that won the state championship on the field in the last three years. Ouch! We will get to see Hillsborough vs Robinson and Robinson vs Armwood. But 5 teams have a shot at winning this district and 3 quality teams will be home for the playoffs.

5A-9
Jesuit, Middleton, Spoto

Really? Natural reaction is “Who is the runner up? Because Jesuit should not lose to either”. But that is why we play the game. So these 3 teams move from a 9 team district to a 3 team district.
